Recruiters don’t look for desperate people

desperateWhen writing this title for the post, I realized that it was a bit harsh but so true at the same time.

I mean it, it is unfortunate but true. My article, Don’t put “Looking for a job” on your linkedin status embraced exactly the same idea. I understand all the reactions I got on linkedin but I am trying to explain why this tip is valuable…

I still think that it is not an efficient way of looking for a job especially in the long run. For recruiters you have … Continue Reading

Don’t put “Looking for a job” on your linkedin status

looking for a jobI see many people updating their status with “Looking for a job” or “Looking for new opportunities”

But do you think you make the most out of Linkedin? Do you think it is going to attract recruiters?

I think it is not the best thing to do for your reputation or your personal brand.

Why?

Because you position yourself as someone asking for something, asking for a job, waiting for things to happen, you are being passive!

Instead you could put on your linkedin status that you attended a … Continue Reading

I thank headhunters for boosting my clients mood!

thank-youSomeone I know was contacted by a headhunter the other day…She was not interested in the position at all.

But she realized that it gave her a boost in self-confidence….yes she became aware that she is desirable on the job market and that some people try to reach her.

So what?

Generally speaking recruitment agents waste people’s time with positions that don’t fit or are inadequate. And sometimes even if you don’t fit in the position or you are not really interested they will try to make you fit. You think it is … Continue Reading

A boring profile

boring-classI have been reading CVs lately and I am always surprised by the lack of punchy sentences at the beginning of CVs. Recruiters don’t spend more than 10-20 seconds reading your CV, so you need to grant some time to do your profile properly.

So what is a good profile?

Actually let’s start with a boring profiles on 90% of the CVs I come across.

Most of CVs have this kind of profile:

“I am a committed and rigorous person who strives to achieve the best results. I am strongly motivated by the media … Continue Reading

Recruiters are not creative but hardworking

hardworking2After I published the article Recruiters are not creative, I got hundreds of views and dozens of comments, and the article was tweeted and tweeted and re-tweeted or posted on blogs.

Amongst the comments I had, some recruiters completely agreed with me whereas others told me they were happy that I had left the (recruitment) industry (me too!).

Everything I share on this blog is to help job seekers and executives willing to achieve a career change. And if my thoughts/ideas are a bit harsh for some, I hope it … Continue Reading

6 reasons why this crisis is good

job-losses-3-recessions

For the first time in history, we never had so many job losses.

But this crisis is really a godsend for many reasons!

1) People are waking up and re-evaluating their priorities

The number of career changes is increasing and people want to do what they always wanted to do. I will be attending an exhibition in September about jobs in the charity sector. This exhibition is a huge success this year and almost fully booked. Being kicked out from your company can act as a wake up call, as a way to … Continue Reading

Recruiters are not creative

copypaste

When they recruit someone, they apply a very simple method: if you have worked in the same industry for a competitor of their client or something very similar, you will be selected.

If you have worked for someone else or a different industry, your CV will stay aside.

It is what I call, the “copy/paste” selection…

Same industry, same level, same company.

They only recruit me-too or clones because it is the simplest way to please the client.

When I was myself a recruiter, the candidates I selected were candidates I had to copy/paste from the … Continue Reading
