Recruiters are not creative but hardworking

hardworking2After I published the article Recruiters are not creative, I got hundreds of views and dozens of comments, and the article was tweeted and tweeted and re-tweeted or posted on blogs.

Amongst the comments I had, some recruiters completely agreed with me whereas others told me they were happy that I had left the (recruitment) industry (me too!).

Everything I share on this blog is to help job seekers and executives willing to achieve a career change. And if my thoughts/ideas are a bit harsh for some, I hope it … Continue Reading

Career blog – Interview with Janet Davies

janet web nln

Today I talked to Janet Davies, founder and editor of careers portal www.newlifenetwork.co.uk.

I discovered a couple of months ago this website…and this is quite helpful. I challenged Janet on why this website and why “new life” and not “new work”.

Why did you create this website?

I was originally inspired to start the website in 2005 to help white collar professionals who didn’t have access to an outplacement support programme to reinvent their careers after redundancy. Even before this current recession around 2000 people were experiencing … Continue Reading

6 reasons why this crisis is good

job-losses-3-recessions

For the first time in history, we never had so many job losses.

But this crisis is really a godsend for many reasons!

1) People are waking up and re-evaluating their priorities

The number of career changes is increasing and people want to do what they always wanted to do. I will be attending an exhibition in September about jobs in the charity sector. This exhibition is a huge success this year and almost fully booked. Being kicked out from your company can act as a wake up call, as a way to … Continue Reading

Recruiters are not creative

copypaste

When they recruit someone, they apply a very simple method: if you have worked in the same industry for a competitor of their client or something very similar, you will be selected.

Same industry, same level, same company.

They only recruit me-too or clones because it is the simplest way to please the client.

When I was myself a recruiter, the candidates I selected were candidates I had to copy/paste from the … Continue Reading

Web-loafing…

loafing 1

I do remember the first executive I coached…it was back in 2005.

Here was his time schedule:

7.30     He gets up and has his breakfast (and kisses his wife…not all the time)

8.25     He switches on his computer

8.30     He checks his emails

9.10     He goes on news websites and other websites

9.40     He starts scouting through job boards

11.00   After identifying a couple of ads, he reviews his CV and starts elaborating

a cover letter for each position (10-20 positions)

12.30   It is time for Lunch

13.30   Back to computer and some readings, finishes off … Continue Reading

The 4 false beliefs about networking – The networking series

False beliefs

This is the 2nd article about networking. In the 1st we saw Why networking is important to any job search, in this one we see what kind of beliefs can prevent you from networking.

Everytime I run a workshop about networking I hear the same sentences and beliefs about networking.
And my job is to make people think about their beliefs…”Are you sure it is true?”
So let’s have a look at this list of beliefs about networking:

“Networking is manipulation” (it is a classic)
“Networking is for extraverts” (so all the shy … Continue Reading
